Victim Services

Victim services are available through or in conjunction with the City of Toledo Prosecutor's Office, including those provided by:

  • Notification/tracking advocates
  • Municipal prosecutors

Specifically, the notification/tracking advocate assumes the responsibility for notifying crime victims of the date, place, and time of all court appearances in an effort to ensure a victim's appearance in court. Victim presence increases the likelihood of a successful prosecution. Additionally, the notification/tracking advocates provide invaluable educational and social service referral assistance to victims who may be unfamiliar with the criminal justice system or who may need assistance beyond that which can be provided through a successful criminal prosecution.

Each of the municipal prosecutors and support staff assists crime victims by performing various advisory and administrative functions inherently associated with the criminal prosecution process. Basic among them is the analysis of facts and circumstances for the purpose of determining whether the filing of one or more criminal charges is appropriate; advising crime victims of various options available to them through other public and private agencies such as Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation Program; eliminating any mystery associated with the criminal justice process by informing crime victims of what they can expect throughout the course of a criminal prosecution; obtaining convictions in all cases where conviction is possible; and remaining available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of responding to crime victim inquiries.
