Toledo Municipal Court provides court interpreters to facilitate the participation in court proceedings of persons with limited English proficiency, and to those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or unable to speak. Court interpreters help to ensure that all persons are given equal access to justice and that court proceedings function efficiently and effectively. The services of court interpreters are provided at no cost to the individual in need of service.
Parties in a court case may not use family members or friends as court interpreters; an official court interpreter must be appointed by the court.
If an interpreter is required for a case, please contact the Court Administrator’s Office at
419-245-1949 at least seven (7) business days before the scheduled court event.
You may also request an interpreter.
Ohio courts are directed to appoint Supreme Court certified foreign language and sign language interpreters (please see Sup.R. 88(D) and (E) for more information). If you are interested in contracting with Toledo Municipal Court to provide certified foreign language or sign language interpreting services, please contact the Court Administrator’s Office at 419-245-1949.
If you would like to learn more about becoming a certified court interpreter, please contact Ohio Supreme Court Language Services at 614-387-9404, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by visiting their website at www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/JCS/interpreterSvcs/
