Interpreter Services

To ensure that all persons are given equal access to justice and that court proceedings function efficiently and effectively, the Toledo Municipal Court provides interpreting services to individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, unable to speak, vision-impaired or have limited English proficiency. The court provides interpreting services for court users at no cost to the person in need.

Parties in a court case may not use family members or friends as court interpreters; an official court interpreter must be appointed by the court.

If an interpreter is required for a case, please contact the Court Services Department at (419) 245-1877 or (419) 936-2857 at least seven business days before the scheduled court event.  You may also request an interpreter by completing the Request for Interpreter Form and returning it at least seven business days before the scheduled court event via email to judges_court_serv_spec@tmcourt.org.

Ohio courts are directed to appoint Supreme Court-certified foreign language and sign language interpreters. Please see Ohio Revised Code 2311.14 for more information.

If you are interested in contracting with Toledo Municipal Court to provide certified foreign language or sign language interpreting services, please contact the Court Services Department via phone at (419) 936-7294 or (419) 245-1995 or via email to judges_court_serv_spec@tmcourt.org.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a certified court interpreter, please contact the Supreme Court of Ohio Language Services Program by phone at (614) 387-9404, by email at InterpreterServices@sc.ohio.gov, or by visiting their website at www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/JCS/InterpreterSvcs

Issues with court interpreting services should be raised as soon as possible.  If a problem with interpreting occurs during court, the issue should be brought to the attention of the judge or magistrate so that it can be immediately addressed.  If that is not possible, please contact the Court Administrator's Office via phone at (419) 245-1949 or via email courtadministrator@tmcourt.org.
