Building Regulations
Guns and other weapons (openly carried or concealed) are not permitted in the Toledo Municipal Court building unless carried by law enforcement personnel in their official capacity. Contraband, hazardous objects, and items that may be used as or have the appearance of a weapon are also not permitted in the building.
Before entry, all packages, purses, briefcases, backpacks, etc. are scanned by an X-ray machine. Individuals must remove all items from their pockets and walk through a metal detector. Individuals in possession of an item that is legal but otherwise prohibited from the courthouse will be denied entry until the item is secured elsewhere or disposed of. Confiscated items will not be returned. Individuals in possession of any item deemed illegal are subject to criminal charges. Any person who refuses to be searched or screened by security personnel will be denied entry to the courthouse.
Food and/or drinks are not permitted in the courthouse. Any food and/or drinks brought into the building will be discarded of by security personnel. Smoking in the courthouse is prohibited. While there is no specific dress code for the building, Local Rule 6 requires proper clothing.
Toledo Municipal Court welcomes service animals assisting individuals with disabilities. A service animal is defined as a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. The work or task the service animal has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person's disability. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals do not meet the definition of a service animal and are not permitted in the building.
Any visitor to the courthouse who has shown a pattern of disruptive behavior within the courthouse or who has made threats against building staff is subject to a court security escort. Local Rule 6 prohibits anyone from impeding or disrupting the orderly conduct of court business.
