JUDGES’ SECRETARY

Full Time

Starting Rate: $21.242 per hour or $44,183.36 annually

Full Rate: $23.602 per hour or $49,092.16 annually

JOB OVERVIEW

The Court is now accepting applications for the position of Judges’ Secretary.  Responsibilities include performing a variety of secretarial, receptionist and clerical functions for Judges and the Court Administrative staff. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with the public in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:      Graduation from high school/GED certificate required. 

Experience:     Two (2) years secretarial experience required.  Completion of one year (30 semester hours) of an accredited business college or secretarial school may be substituted for one year of required experience. Extensive knowledge of office procedures and computer competency required. Good knowledge of court system preferred, but not required. Demonstrated ability to transcribe dictation preferred, but not required. Potential candidates must pass a background check.

COURT NAVIGATOR

Part-time.  Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week during court business hours.  Starting salary is $22.900 per hour. 

This is a part-time position that requires proof of continuing college level education in either a paralegal-related field of study or enrollment in law school.  For complete job description click here.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing law clerk duties for housing and small claims magistrates
  • Assisting the public with completing forms related to evictions, smalls claims, and garnishments
  • Answering litigants' questions about procedures or case status
  • Filling in as an arraignment court law clerk as needed
  • Providing initial screening for license intervention officer and mediation.
  • Referring parties to proper external resources for guidance

Applicants must be able to:

  • Take initiative as a self-starter
  • Interact with the public and members of the bench
  • Work in a fast-paced environment

Minimum qualifications:

  • Two (2) years college instruction (60 semester hours) toward a Bachelor Degree in Paralegal Studies or Bachelor Degree and current enrollment in an accredited college of law, required
  • Proof of continuing college level education in one of the above-referenced fields of study, required
  • One (1) year prior legal or non-legal work experience, required
  • One (1) year experience working with the public preferred, but not required
