The MacArthur Safety+Justice Challenge Diversion Program is an educational class designed to minimize individual potential for future criminal justice system contact. Toledo Municipal Court instituted this program in June 2018 as an alternative resolution of cases related to misdemeanor drug possession, disorderly conduct, and obstructing justice. The program’s curriculum is grounded in procedural fairness and also helps participants develop strategies for accessing community resources for success. Upon completion of the 3 ½ hour class, the case in which an individual was referred to the program is dismissed and the individual does not need to appear in court on those charges again. The program is not geared toward first time offenders and offenders can go through the Diversion Program more than once.
