Court Services - Victim Services

Victim services available through, or in conjunction with the City of Toledo Prosecutors' Office, include those provided by:

  • Notification/tracking advocates
  • "Kids Space" and its staff
  • The municipal prosecutors

Specifically, the notification/tracking advocate assumes the responsibility for notifying crime victims of the date, place and time of all court appearances in an effort to ensure victim appearance in court. Victim presence increases the likelihood of a successful prosecution. Additionally, the notification/tracking advocates provide invaluable educational and social service referral assistance to victims, who may be unfamiliar with the criminal justice system, or who may need assistance beyond that which can be provided through a successful criminal prosecution.

"Kids Space" assists female crime victims by providing a child care service. Such victims frequently face childcare obstacles, which may prevent them from appearing in court when needed. Through "Kids Space" female crime victims can be assured that their children will be well cared for in a safe and secure environment while such victims are attending to their obligations in court. A trained staff and service volunteers supervise up to seventeen (17) children ranging in ages from 3 days to 10 years. The staff is also certified in first aid and CPR. This free service is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.

Finally, each of the municipal prosecutors and the support staff assist crime victims by performing various advisory and administrative functions inherently associated with the criminal prosecution process. Basic among them are the analysis of facts and circumstances for the purpose of determining whether the filing of one or more criminal charges is appropriate; advising crime victims of various options available to them through other public and private agencies such as Ohio' s Crime Victim Compensation Program; eliminating any mystery associated with the criminal justice process by informing crime victims of what they can expect throughout the course of a criminal prosecution; obtaining convictions in all cases where conviction is possible; and remaining available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of responding to crime victim inquiries.

For more information about these services, contact the City Prosecutor's Office at (419) 245-1975.
